The Community service: From university practice

Abstract

The purpose of this research is aimed at interpreting the practices developed by the National Experimental University "Simón Rodríguez" (UNESR), Núcleo Valera, to comply with the provision of the Higher Education Student Community Service. The study falls within the qualitative paradigm and as the ethnographic method used, the qualitative information collection techniques used were: non-participant observation, informal conversations, audio and video recordings. The systematization and analysis of the information allowed us to interpret two (02) categories of practices carried out by the participants and facilitators involved in carrying out the community service, namely: Academic and community practices, each one with its respective sub-categories of analysis, which It allowed unveiling a practice marked by a lack of commitment, individualism and assistance. This leads us to reflect on the paths of institutional transformation to follow to implement the improvement of the practices carried out.
