Abstract

Gentrification has become a global urban challenge, whose dynamics have been significantly influenced by the emergence of short-term rental platforms like Airbnb. This study presents a systematic bibliometric mapping of the scientific literature exploring the interconnection between gentrification and Airbnb. Based on a database of 104 documents retrieved from OpenAlex.org and analyzed using the bibliometrix package in RStudio, the research identifies publication trends, key actors, and the conceptual structure of the field during the period 2015–2025. The results reveal that research focuses on the economic, geographical, and political dimensions of Airbnb-induced gentrification. The author collaboration network underscores the existence of diverse research communities active in the field. This study contributes by providing a structured overview of the existing literature and highlighting key areas for future research, proving highly useful for academics and policymakers interested in the impacts of the platform economy on cities.
