Participatory action research design for the supply of drinking water in the Manuel Salvador Ulloa Parish of the Candelaria Municipality, Trujillo State

Abstract

In the approach to social needs it is important to have a methodology to concretize a path towards the achievement of the means and strategies to solve the situations, that is why in the face of the problem of the deficient supply of drinking water in the parish Manuel Salvador Ulloa, the general objective is to design an action plan that involves the inhabitants of this population, social groups, educational institutions and governmental entities to agree on a proposal for a solution to the shortage of drinking water for the inhabitants of this locality. In order to know the conditions of the reality under study, the historical, geographical, social, economic and environmental aspects in which the inhabitants of this municipality live are investigated, recognizing in the process the precarious conditions of safe water supply to meet their basic needs.   In order to achieve this goal, the studies carried out by international organizations on development, quality of life, health, importance of water, food, growth, economic development, eradication of poverty, among others, are taken into account; sustainable human development is assumed becauseits theory presents the possible answers to find the way in the search for strategies and resources to solve the problems posed with a view to ensuring water for future generations. In the design of the research, the participatory action research (PAR) methodology is assumed, because it presents the way to approach the problems from the site of the events, with the natural social actors who live the affectations caused by the lack of water in their daily lives, besides the fact that this methodology offers the possibility of building knowledge in a concerted manner and executing the transforming actions at the same time, enhancing learning through action.
