Software as a service - SaaS: Global Trends

Abstract

The present investigation aimed to analyze existing global trends in SaaS. This investigation type was descriptive (Tamayo and Tamayo, 2003), documentary (Finol and Nava 1999), with a non-experimental design, transverse (Hernández Fernández and Baptista, 2005) and bibliometric Alcain (2002 ). The population of this research work is finite and objective type (Chavez, 1994), is represented by a population of 10 articles from sources such as: Gartner Symposium / ITxpo, computing.es (Spain), Magazine Management (Chile) , Forbes.com, ComputerWorld, among others. To collect the primary data, the direct observation technique was used. An analysis matrix (Finol and Nava 1999) and technical data (Tamayo and Tamayo 2007) was implemented. First, we observed the rapid growth and adoption of SaaS globally by small and large companies for its simplicity an rapid in outcome to production for customers, change of investment in hardware / software to payment for use. Other feature is based on the type of software applications available, they are mainly focused on administrative systems, Customer Relationship Management and Enterprise Resource Planning. On the other hand it is also important to note that observed on individual cases of organizations which have migrated their platforms under the private cloud SaaS approach for the above benefits without the drawbacks of security. Other drawbacks also considered most important for the adoption of SaaS are: integration with legacy systems and the lack of customization of software and network instability.
