Abstract

The aim of this paper is to perform an statistical descriptive analysis of ultraviolet radiation in the city of Maracaibo in the period from October 01 to October 30, 2012. An exploratory, expofacto and comparative research with the data of September of the same year was made. The data was recorded at the meteorological station MeteoUrbe - 1, located at the Universidad Rafael BellosoChacin. The analysis is performed through the Ultraviolet Index (UVI) observed between 10:00 am. and 3:00 pm. The UVI values were located in ranges marked as high or very high by the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO). Recommendations to be taken by citizens in order to minimize the effect of this radiation on humans, particularly in children and the elderly persons are made.
